About the Item
This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online.
Michael Abrams’ painting "Who? Why? What?" is a playful and enigmatic work that encourages viewers to delve into its mystery. The painting features three hound-headed figures, each with a distinct yet equally perplexed expression. The trio seems to be in a state of deep contemplation, as if trying to unravel some great mystery. The title’s questions—Who? Why? What?—echo the figures’ apparent confusion, prompting viewers to join in the search for answers.
The composition is marked by Abrams’ characteristic blend of surrealism and whimsy. The hound heads, with their large, glassy eyes, appear both comical and poignant, their expressions capturing a range of emotions from curiosity to concern. The background, rendered in soft, muted tones, adds to the painting’s dreamlike atmosphere, while the careful detailing of the figures highlights Abrams’ skill as a painter.
"Who? Why? What?" is a fascinating exploration of the unknown, inviting viewers to ponder the questions posed by the title and the figures within the painting. It is a work that lingers in the mind, offering no easy answers but instead opening up a world of possibilities and interpretations. Available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art in Chelsea, as well as online, where viewers can experience the whimsical and mysterious world of Abrams' surrealism from anywhere in the world.

“As a contemporary artist, my work delves into the surreal with my latest series, "Hound Heads." Drawing inspiration from the imaginative worlds of René Magritte and Saul Steinberg, I seek to explore the familiar yet peculiar. In these paintings, I present the ordinary, typically British suited figure—but instead of the expected city gentleman, I replace the human head with an oversized, meticulously rendered hound’s head.
The vacant expressions and glassy-eyed stares of these hounds are meant to evoke a sense of unease and curiosity. Through this, I aim to provoke questions: What lies beneath the surface of these seemingly composed figures? Is there an underlying emotion or narrative that I’m hinting at?
Yet, when the tension builds, I also seek to disarm it. By placing these characters in absurd, theatrical scenarios, I invite a moment of whimsy and reflection. For instance, in "Hound of the Budgerigars" (2024), a flock of vividly painted birds perches on the outstretched arms of the hound, creating a charming "reverse scarecrow" scene. Similarly, in "Still Life" (2024), the viewer is left to ponder whether the title refers to the hound himself or the seemingly random array of colorful objects surrounding him.
Through the "Hound Heads" series, I strive to explore the complexities of the human condition and our intricate relationship with man's best friend..”-Michael Abrams

Soulmates (brown pet dog, lady, vintage, animal, surrealist oil painting)
By Rudolf Kosow
Located in Quebec, Quebec
Soulmates," a poignant work by Rudolf Kosow, tenderly illustrates the profound bond shared between a dog and a human. In this intimate portrayal, the dog's gaze is imbued with an emotional depth that transcends the boundaries between species. Its eyes, rendered with striking clarity, convey a world of understanding and companionship.
The lady, is nestled against the dog's face in a pose that suggests a mutual trust and shared existence. This closeness speaks to a relationship that goes beyond the conventional pet-owner dynamic, hinting at a deeper, spiritual connection—a true meeting of souls.
In Kosow's vision, the concept of soulmates expands, encompassing the idea that our most understanding and compassionate partners may not be human at all. The painting's title, "Soulmates," encapsulates the notion that kindred spirits are connected not by words, but by the heart and soul, through gestures of love and moments of silent understanding.
With "Soulmates," Kosow invites us to contemplate the essence of connection and the forms it can take. It's a celebration of the unspoken bond that animals and humans can share, an acknowledgment that the purest forms of love and understanding sometimes require no language. This piece serves as a beautiful reminder of the loyalty, comfort, and unconditional acceptance that define the most precious of life's relationships.
