Morgan Cameron
"Carousel" by Morgan Cameron, Oil painting Featuring Carousel Horse

2024

About the Item

Morgan Cameron’s (US based) “Carousel” is an oil painting on panel that depicts a white carousel horse with bridle and saddle with gilded gold accents. This painting is framed and ready to hang. About the artist: I am an oil painter based out of Southern Maine. My subject matter focuses mainly on animals and capturing a sense of movement and narrative through the captivating style of disrupted-realism. Living creatures are constantly moving, especially animals and I strive to capture that movement in my art. This may be why I am drawn to looser forms and brushwork in paintings. It is less precise and leaves room for improvisation during the creation process and makes gestures of ideas that the viewer can decipher as they wish. Life moves and thrives in unpredictable ways while taking on a rhythm of its own and I strive to express this in my artwork. I aim to assist the subject with the appearance of movement and life and to meld the forms to create something that feels united throughout the painting as a whole. I use several different tools to achieve this and I’m constantly trying to develop all their uses and possibilities, many of which are discovered during creation process itself. I was born and raised in the small rural town of Dover-Foxcroft, ME. My family had a farm with many animals and lots of land and I spent most of my time outside with my pony and dogs or exploring the woods on foot. I have always found a closeness with animals and surrounding myself them nourishes my soul and inspires my artwork. I loved riding both Western and Dressage and I would draw my horses constantly. Although my range of subject matter has expanded, equines still remain one of my favorites. I have a passion for all animals and since I was young I learned to observe their beautiful anatomy and movements and how to capture their essence on paper. Eventually I would discover painting and this sent me on the path I'm still on today. I now live in Gray, ME with my husband and our dog. My husband is a Pianist/Composer and we’ve spent our years traveling and growing artistically together. This has given me the chance to explore new things and gain new, fresh inspiration for my art time and time again as well as share it everywhere we have lived, settling at last in our home-state of Maine. I have shown my artwork across the country and hope to continue to paint and grow as an artist for the rest of my life.

Derek Penix's (US based) "Penguins" is an oil painting that depicts a huddle of penguins flocking gently together at water's edge. Bio/Artist Statement: Derek Penix was born on December 29, 1980 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Growing up Penix was surrounded by artists in his family as his mother and grandfather painted. Penix did not pursue painting until after graduating high school. Penix’s mother encouraged him to pursue his talent and took his paintings down to a local gallery where he sold his first piece. Through the years Penix has been inspired by old masters such as Nicolai Fechin, Sargent and the French Impressionists, but it has been over the last few years that Penix has been the most influenced by artist Quang Ho. Penix had the opportunity to take a workshop under Mr. Ho and later to study briefly with him. Since then, Penix believes his paintings have grown more in the last two years than in his last ten years of painting. As an artist Penix gains inspiration from his environment whether that be at the park, in his home, or traveling abroad. He enjoys the freedom to paint different subject matter and has learned to push himself to try new things, even if they are out of his comfort zone. Penix was recognized in South West Art...
