About the Item

P. Remy (French, circa 1938) A wire fox terrier signed and dated '- P. Remy -/ 1938' (lower right) oil on canvas 18 x 13 in. (45.8 x 33 cm.) frame 24 x 19 in. (61 x 48.3 cm.) This charming 1938 portrait by the French artist P. Remy captures a wire-haired terrier with remarkable immediacy and character. Set against a muted grey background, the dog’s intelligent gaze and wiry coat are rendered with confident, lively brushwork, conveying both texture and personality. The composition is pared back, allowing the viewer to focus entirely on the terrier’s expressive face and upright posture. Signed and dated lower right, this is a sensitive and skilful example of early 20th-century French canine portraiture.
