About the Item
Prashant Salvi
Leap, Watercolour, Acrylic, Charcoal on Paper
22 x 30 inches, 2016
(shipped in a roll form)
"I have built my career on surrealist,anatomical/botanical fantasies; beautifully rendered yet sometimes haunting and gruesome, void of irony and done with absolute sincerity. My work builds meaning primarily by exploring the unbridgeable difference between animals and people. A proactive imagery of humans and animals suggests an investigation of linguistics, the natural sciences and human sociology all in respect to the parallel universe of other species alongside us. I use a seemingly detached abstraction as a counter-point, tomy- stylised fabrications of sexual desire"- Prashant Salvi
An undercurrent of eroticism, viewed with a steady detachment often can be part of Salvi's works, morphing human and animal forms and throwing psychological riddles challenging the viewer to decide where life begins or ends.
Salvi's watercolours with its technical virtuosity turn images from nature to a surrealistic dance of survival. The works are challenging, complex and magically real and acknowledge life’s gentleness and aggressiveness in unison. While nature’s logic could be used to argue the very existence of an omnipotent creator, Salvi, paradoxically suggests ambiguity to life's bigger and deeper questions; answers of which he feels don't come in neat packages. "

The Recluse, Watercolor, Acrylic on paper, Brown, Contemporary Artist "In Stock"
By Joydip Sengupta

Joydip Sengupta - The Recluse - 22 x 17.5 inches (unframed size)
Watercolor and Acrylic on paper.
Style : His artistic devices are drawn from a range of sources, such as Kalighat paintings and ancient philosophical texts. Of course, his concerns are very much contemporary like the impact of globalization leading to economic marginalization and cultural degradation.
His photo realistic works draw from images related to contemporary Indian life, building complex puzzles and weaving together myriad experiences and influences as imbibed by the artist. The motifs in his paintings are rather complex.
According to his “I primarily work on Paper and Canvas. My chosen mediums of expression are Watercolour, Gouache, Acrylic and Oil paints. I am also engaged in photography, filmmaking, sculpture and installations.”
Conceptually, the immediacy of the drawn image alongside elaboration of the painted surface; balance the overall process of image making with anecdotes and mystery motifs. The interlocking of juxtaposed drawings with the painted surface steadily blurs the certainty of the known from the unknown. An altered sense of reality emerges. The human psyche perceives to the extent of what it may see and beyond that spectrum is the unknown, which is an anxious state of being. The notion of the self within a contained form is bound by the limits of time and to embrace its fleeting nature is a challenge. We are able to justify the presence of reality by assigning identities to it and a strong sense of the self is built around them. From within the illusions of a complex network, we are often reminded that life is fleeting. The surplus and grandeur of modern culture shifts your attention to make-believe realities where the nature of the self is packaged in everlasting youthfulness and happy living.

This painting on paper is a playful, yet elegant depiction of a personal mantra of Bhatt’s in which she concedes, “life is a circus.”
Amita Bhatt received her BFA from the Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara, India and her MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland. Bhatt’s work has been exhibited at noteworthy venues such as the Bluestar Contemporary Art Center, Walters Art Museum, The Station Museum of Contemporary Art, and The Project Row Houses, all in the United States as well as Museo Pedro de Osma in Peru. She has also been the recipient of several prestigious awards and recently served as a Grant Panelist on the National Endowment for the Arts. Her works are included in many important private and public collections.
Bhatt digs deep into world philosophies and mythologies to answer questions pertaining to our political as well as personal belief systems. Unafraid to explore uncomfortable territories, the artist mines from a range of sources to create hybrid creatures that are often symbolic of man’s psychological condition in an angst-ridden zeitgeist.
In exploring issues of identity and violence, Bhatt’s research led her to the beginnings of mankind. Most ancient creation...
