Pointillistic "Lion Devouring its Prey" René Hérisson (France, 1857-1940) Dated 1920 Oil on panel 41 1/3 x 29 1/2 (37 3/8 x 48 3/4 frame) inches René Herisson (France, 1857-1940) was a painter, artist and man of letters from the Cognac region of France. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1896 to 1940. He also wrote and published poetry under the pseudonym of Henri Sorsène. He is particularly known for his animal paintings and oils such as La Verrerie Claude Boucher (The Glass Factory) which can be seen in the Musée des Arts de Cognac. At the Jardin des Plantes, he made drawings from life, a number of which are in the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. The Museum of Cognac holds sixty-six of his works, paintings and pencil or pen drawings.
