About

Painting of a Rabbit Family "Study from Life-A Family (Studio dal Vero- "Una Famiglia")" Silvio Bicchi (Italy, 1874-1948) Mixed media on cardboard Signed and dated 1915 11 x 7 (16 1/2 x 12 1/2 frame) inches Silvio Bicchi (Livorno, 1874 - Florence, 1948): After having been a pupil of Giovanni Fattori (1825-1908), one of the leaders of the Macchioli-Italian Impressionists-at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence with his brother Ottorino Bicchi, he established himself with a series of illustrations of the Divine Comedy. Later he was in Paris, and then on to London, where he deeply felt the influence of the great English portrait painters. During his subsequent stay in North America, he achieved wide popularity and solved his financial problems. After finding success abroad, he returned to Italy where he continued to work, finding much popularity. Between 1927 and 1928 he assumed the artistic direction of the Milan Ceramic Factory. He also created works with the fresco technique, of which are the exceptional works in the Library of the Villa Ex Magni-Rizzoli in Canzo. He took part in two editions of the Venice International Art Exhibition, that of 1914 and that of 1920. A collection of his works can be found in the Civic Museum of Palazzo Guicciardini in Montopoli in Val d'Arno. The municipality of Livorno has titled a street in his name
