- Eastern Wild Turkey /// Ornithology Bird Wildlife Contemporary Painting AnimalBy Ron LouqueLocated in Saint Augustine, FLArtist: Ron Louque (American, 1952-) Title: "Eastern Wild Turkey" *Signed and dated by Louque lower right Year: 1976 Medium: Original Gouache/Watercolor Painting on Illustration Board Board size: 30" x 40" Condition: Some minor edge wear from previous framing; it was previously framed within Louque's personal collection. In excellent condition Notes: During Louque's entire artist's career, he has executed only four original Turkey paintings. This being the last example remaining, it is the first time offered for sale to the public. An original painting by Ron Louque is an excellent addition to any Ornithology or general Natural History art collection. We are the only source for Louque's original paintings. The wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) is an upland ground bird native to North America and is the heaviest member of the diverse Galliformes. It is the same species as the domestic turkey, which was originally derived from a southern Mexican subspecies of wild turkey (not the related ocellated turkey). Although native to North America, the turkey probably got its name from the domesticated variety being imported to Britain in ships coming from the Levant via Spain. The British at the time therefore associated the wild turkey with the country Turkey and the name prevails. Biography: Ron Louque (1952-) is an American artist born in New Orleans, LA. His paintings have been featured on 34 State Conservation Stamps. He won the Federal Duck Stamp...Category
