About the Item
Anne Sargent Walker's "Summer Flowers" is a contemporary still life in oil of flowers in a glass. Freshly painted and lushly colored, blossoms sport shades of pink and white, with leaves in a variety of greens against a vivid blue green background. Unframed, it measures 8 inches by 8 inches by .5 inch deep. Sides are painted a deep neutral color. it is signed in the lower right corner, and signed and dated on the reverse.
Anne Sargent Walker’s semi-abstract paintings on canvas or panel combine oil, acrylic and often collage to explore the beauty and fragility of the natural world and our complicated relationship to it. Her colorful images often feature birds and other animals in a naturalistic setting whose surfaces appear to peel or degrade revealing underlying layers of paint, pattern or collage. Whether the paintings are quite realistic or done with pop-like silhouettes in flat colors, Walker strives for beauty in her paintings. Her use of hot colors and fragmented, degraded, or dripping surfaces, however, suggest loss: of habitat, species, and even of ourselves. Sargent Walker is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, MA.

Anne Sargent Walker
Anne Sargent Walker’s semi-abstract paintings explore the beauty, complexity and fragility of the natural world, and our complicated relationship with it. The surface content of birds, flora and other creatures often degrades, peels back, dissolves or drips to reveal layers underneath, suggesting the planet’s warming, loss of habitat, species, the earth itself and of course us. Anne grew up in the Boston area and in Vermont, and has degrees from Connecticut College and Tufts University. She has had residencies in Ireland, Italy and Vermont and has been awarded a Berkshire Taconic Foundation Artist’s Resource Trust grant. Her work has been shown extensively in New England and collected internationally, including Fidelity Corporation, Waterway Capital, and Twin Farms Resort. She has been reviewed in Artscope Magazine and Cape Cod Arts, among others. Anne is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

View from the Train: Cityscape Oil Painting, View of Brooklyn
By Patty Neal
Located in Hudson, NY
View from the Train, 2019
24" X 40" x 1", oil on canvas
This contemporary oil painting depicting a metropolitan view is the work of realist painter Patty Neal. The painting offers an intimate view of the city, as seen from a window, as it peeks from behind two metal structures. The dark browns and bright golds beautifully compliment the dusty blue, gray sky. Neal works highlight everyday city scenes, utilitarian infrastructure, and industrial or electrical apparatus.
Artist statement:
A life is an accumulation of experiences: visual, emotional and mental. By compartmentalizing these snippets of life we create boundaries. The focus of my work for many years has been the exploration of these various life aspects and how they are bound together or bound from each other. My process is often literally composed of boundaries. I make a painting by putting together multiple panels, or I segment a single panel into separate visual spaces. The works are made up of pieces or elements of city and landscape. While exploring the concepts of boundaries I play with visual “reality.” Sometimes I combine images that are upside down with those that are not and juxtapose images from different contexts. Literal boundaries, such as walls fences, expanses of water and highway median strips are also used. My intent is to invite viewers to look beyond these boundaries to see the possibilities of a connected whole.

"Romantical" (2022) by Carrie Goller, Oil & Cold Wax Painting, Hummingbird
Located in Denver, CO
Carrie Goller's (US based) "Romantical" is an original, handmade oil painting that depicts a hummingbird hovering above white orchids. This piece is unframed yet ready to hang.
Born and raised on Washington’s tiny Bainbridge Island, artist Carrie Goller recalls being advised as a child to pursue a career in fine art. After an early career as a paralegal, a life-changing experience led her to become a serious and dedicated artist.
Once I finally indulged my need to create art, the door was opened and I haven’t looked back. I’ve been making up for lost time; a bit obsessed. Art is now a necessity for me. I find true expression and balance in that world, says Goller.
Goller is inspired by simple, sensuous organic forms and the realm of colors, shapes and textures found in nature. Her thoughtful approach to subject matter can be evidenced from her tender still life work, along with a passion for rendering impressionist oils of daily life. From her Bainbridge Island and Hood Canal...
