In his paintings, Brian Alfred captures a vast range of subject matter, be it brilliant sunsets, urban landscapes, or the close details of our daily experiences. He confronts tranquility against chaos, resulting in a balance of clean lines, solid shapes and color, thin washes and thick textured areas that create a diverse sense of stillness. Viewers encounter images that seem to be caught mid pan, as if the frame is frozen and flattened color fields overlap each other layer by layer with clean, stenciled edges and loose transparent washes to achieve a bold simplicity.
