About the Item
Block Party - Outdoor neighborhood street parties are part of the summer fun in Southern California where neighbors mingle and their children discover new friends. It is a mix of nationalities playing corn hole, sharing barbecue and potato salad, drinking beer and lemonade and enjoying the hot weather on a sunny day in So Cal.
Artist Carole Garland, who studied figure drawing at th Art Institute of Chicago, employs her artistic skills to create a circular design with the children moving, sitting and standing. The ranch houses in rear set the scene. The bright primary and secondary saturated colors - from yellow, orange and red to light turquoise and emerald green - move our eye around the painting through their repetition. Bright balloons, spinners and the American flag add to the holiday celebration.
The 20"x24" oil painting on a wood panel is wired for ease of hanging. The natural wood sides can serve as a frame.
Carole Garland is in art collections throughout the United States and has shown in venues in every part of Southern California. Most recent exhibitions include the Santa Paula Art Museum; the Betsy Leuk Art Center, Burbank; DeFrenS Gallery, Westlake Village; Gallery of Hermosa, Hermosa Beach; West Los Angeles College. She had individual shows at TAG Gallery for more than 10 years. And participated in group shows with the California Art Club. Currently her work can also be viewed at Kathryn Design Studio, Montecito.

Carole Garland
Carole Garland, born and raised in Chicago, graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., She studied figure drawing and oil painting at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of the Americas, Mexico City. After moving to Los Angeles she studied privately with Keith Finch, Venice. Concurrent with her art pursuits, Garland worked as a magazine editor, publicist, director's assistant, book editor, and sales executive. After a brief hiatus from painting, she looked to the outdoors for inspiration and began plein air watercolor studies with Don Blaisdell, UCLA.
