About the Item

" Sprouting for an Inch, in for a Mile" is a powerful painting process that captures the essence of life and vitality. This painting captures the spirit of improvisation and adaptation, with dynamic form that projects for a willingness to take risks and explore new variables. The sprouts seem to reach out to and connect with each other, forming a bridge that spans the spatiality between them. The vibrant colors and sensitive brushwork in this canvas suggest a for sense of confidence and determination. The sprouts seem to be forging a path forward, with a clear sense of purpose and direction. The oblique structure and multi-faceted forms accumulate to create a sense of vivid motion and change. Its cursive brushes of Zen calligraphy convey something as if the painting process itself is to be alive and pulsing with an encyclical energy. The sprouts seem to be in a constant state of flux, evolving and adapting as they grow and mature. It implies that life is exactly a battlefield, wherever you, go with all your heart. The vein pattern that run through the painting process symbolizes the strength of life that sustains all living beings, while the smaller bean sprouts around represent the hope for new growth with trust. From 2022 to 2023, Cymn extended a soul karma in her Washington saloon that spearheads to create a masterful suited style of American ethos. The ethos showcases an accomplishment in self-realization of aesthetic views of both Eastern and Western cultures. Wong attempts to vitalize certain built-in imageries and present the visual world via a dynamic interaction for human passion with the environment and the universe. In retrospect about the reciprocity between poetry and art, Cymn’s artistic attainments are expanding into a vivid oasis that she has been stimulated in an international platform. Three turning points of creativity for Cymn Wong’s recent paintings: (1) SHIFT IN AESTHETICS: From traditional Chinese painting to contemporary New York Abstract Expressionism; (2) DRIFT IN POETICS: From poetic vision to Zen mindful calligraphy-landscape; (3) TWIST IN CONTEXT: From Hong Kong to American Experiences. Cymn renders abstract landscapes with a particular frame of mind in poetry that reveals the meaning of painting intoxicated by its mood and image. For example, by incorporating the shape of the bean sprout into visual language, her art creates an alternative way of revealing the wisdom of Zen philosophy and its insights. The unique aesthetic of her paintings is a fusion of the fluidity and freedom of abstract expressionism with the contemplative practice of Zen calligraphy. This integration of passionate energy and meditative stillness presents a landscape that is holistically dynamic and contemplative, evocative and reflective. The bean sprout is a crystalized symbol. Its unique shape evokes the numbers "0" and "1". The "0" of the bean sprout represents nothingness or emptiness, a void that is pregnant with potential. The "1", on the other hand, represents possibilities and growth. The dynamic interplay between these two facets for growth, meanwhile its renewal is inherent continuously in every moment. In short, Cymn Wong’s painting is imbued with subtle fuse of intrinsic imagery and poetic fluidity, allowing the inner-echoes to lead the brushstrokes on its own accord. With a heightened sense of life vigor that goes beyond a mere representation, Cymn is sensitized and mindful free to present a transformed landscape anew.

The Sprout Is Bulky, While Its Bean Is Sulky
Located in Rockville, MD
A bean sprout is hereby portrayed with striking contrast, depicted as a massive, but light in coloring presence, in which the majority of the canvas is occupied with its hulking stems and oversized leaves. The bean, on the other hand, is small and sullen, sitting at the base of the sprout with a downcast expression. The texture seal technique has been used to create areas of both positive and negative spatiality. Moreover, the Zen calligraphy freehand brush strokes add a sense of sluggish flow, a poignant reminder of the delicate balance between strength and vulnerability, and the ever-shifting interplay between these opposing forces. From 2022 to 2023, Cymn extended a soul karma in her Washington saloon that spearheads to create a masterful suited style of American ethos. Waterline Fine Art, Austin, TX is pleased to present the following work: Oil, pastel, and paper collage on canvas. Signed and dated verso. 52.75 x 47.75 in. 54 x 49 in. (framed) Gilded floater frame. Provenance Compass Rose, Chicago Born Sylvan Irwin Goldberg in 1924 and raised in the Bronx, Michael Goldberg was an important figure in American Abstract Expressionism, who began taking art classes at the Art Students League in 1938. A gifted student, Goldberg finished high school at the age of 14 and enrolled in City College. He soon found New York’s jazz scene to be a more compelling environment, and he began skipping classes in favor of the Harlem jazz clubs near campus. Goldberg’s love of jazz would become a lifelong passion and a key component to his approach to composition in his paintings. From 1940 to 1942, like many of the leading artists of the New York School, Goldberg studied with Hans Hofmann. In 1943, he put his pursuit of painting on hold and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Serving in North Africa, Burma, and India, Goldberg received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star before being discharged in 1946. After his service, he traveled and worked in Venezuela before returning to the United States, settling back in New York and resuming studies with Hofmann and at the Art Students League. Living downtown and frequenting the Cedar Bar, Goldberg befriended many of the artists of the New York School. In 1951, his work was included in the groundbreaking Ninth Street Show, co-organized by Leo Castelli, Conrad Marca-Relli, and the Eighth Street Club, and featuring the work of - among others - Hofmann, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Franz Kline. In 1953, the Tibor de Nagy...
