About the Item
In a stylistic amalgam of Pop and folk, abstract and figurative, I take inspiration from an alternative upbringing where I closely connected with the natural landscape around me. Born and raised in Cuba shaped my perspective on nature and how humans interact with land, animals and each other. I employ a Naïve Folk-Art style to explore questions of identity, love, relationship and environment in our society. My paintings often had strong autobiographical elements and mixed realism with fantasy. I make personal womens experiences serious subjects for art, with intense emotional content, powerful and intimate narratives. ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Amelia was born in Cincinnati in 1962 and stayed in the area until 1996 when she moved to Colorado. Amelia attended the Arts Academy of Cincinnati and the University of Cincinnati.
