About the Item
This work depicts a summer hedgerow crowded with blossom – the palest of pink flowers of wild roses, often called dog roses. Their prettiness is matched by their delicate fragrance – which you can get a sense of as your eye wanders over the painting. The dreamy pale blue of the summer sky contrasts with the deep shadows and many shades of green in the foliage.
This work has two panels which form a diptych and form a continuous landscape when hung side by side. The pair would also complement one another if placed on different walls within the same interior.
Artist biography:
Elaine Kazimierczuk studied chemistry at university and taught for many years before becoming a professional artist. She has written and illustrated a series of books on local history besides a monograph on the religious works of the prominent sculptor Peter Eugene Ball, with whom she collaborated on many major commissions. She is a trustee of Midlands-based Ice-age Archaeological Insights and produces visual interpretations of prehistoric people and their environment. In addition to the demand for her landscapes, there is a growing clientele for her portraiture. She has been shortlisted for the 2016 BP National Portrait Award.
Many of Elaine Kazimierczuk’s works are based on interpretations of intimately-known localities, frequently, but not exclusively, in her native Nottinghamshire. In her semi-abstract studies of meadows, trees and hedgerows, she achieves a tension between looseness and control, which enables her to convey that intricate assembly of wild beauty. Frequently working on a red ground, which resonates with the vibrant overpainting, she adopts a bold approach, so that there is an evident freedom, just short of capriciousness, either of hand or eye, in the brushwork. Her works represent the ordered chaos of the natural world with energy and vitality. Elaine Kazimierczuk has recently been awarded the Mary Moser Prize for 2018. This is an Oxfordshire Art Weeks prize awarded to a person who has changed career and taken up art professionally later in life.

Original Diptych-Spring Duet-British Awarded Artist-Abstract UK 21st centenary
Located in London, GB
[Spring Duet] started in 2024, a project where Shizico explores the format of a diptych through a series of set paintings.
Shizu painted all paintings en plein air in situ, capturing the landscape outside of her studio and the interiors of the studio in its entirety, depicted across sets of canvases as diptych odyssey throughout the months of spring.
Each canvas represents a part of musical notes, creating a visual harmony akin to a musical duet. [Spring Duet] is part of the ongoing [Memory Landscape Series], started in 2015.
Shizico applies various mediums and visual languages in the project of [Memory Landscape], ranging from installations, sculptures to paintings, from impressionism, expressionism to abstract forms.
In [Spring Duet] chapter, she focuses on the delicate hues of soft green and creamy white and the pinkie apricot, evoking the early spring light characteristic of Northern Europe, where the series unfolds.
