Adrian Gottlieb
Artist Adrian Gottlieb is primarily known for his figurative and portrait paintings, but his impressive repertoire also includes still lifes. While his paintings may have a deceptively light and easy quality about them, a deep mastery of the craft reveals itself upon closer inspection.
Gottlieb's artistry is underpinned by an extensive education in fine arts. He earned a degree in illustration from Rochester Institute of Technology while spending summers at Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy. Upon graduation, he subsequently studied drawing and classic painting at the Florence Academy of Art for three years.
One of Gottlieb’s best-known pieces is a 2014 portrait of American politician and fine arts patron Michael Huffington. Another recognizable painting is a 2018 portrait of former Nevada governor Brian Sandoval, which is now held in the collection of the Nevada State Capitol Building. "[Sandoval] knew he had found the painter he wanted to capture his legacy when he talked with Adrian Gottlieb, who insisted the outgoing governor sit for him in person for 60 hours, or he wouldn’t take the job," the Nevada Independent reported.
Gottlieb currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.

“My painting, Mother and Child, is a depiction of my daughter and I, inspired by whimsical themes we both enjoy. Studying Pre-Raphaelite paintings, Mother and Child evokes rich Roman Catholic iconography. Poland has this imagery everywhere, as it is home to Our Lady of Czensztochowa. As I am Polish, I draw heavy affection for this imagery. While creating this work I kept this Agatha Christie
quote in mind:
‘A mother’s love for her child is like nothing
else in the world, it knows no law, no pity, it
dares all things and crushes down remorselessly
all that stands in its path.’
In this painting I’ve chosen to portray us outdoors in a dreamlike setting, using vivid colors, lighting and environment. I’ve applied gold and pearlescent paint in the foundation layers which peek through at times. In choosing a pose—her hands touching my face, I hope the viewer sees the love and bond that we share.”
