condition: for its considerable age, the painting is very sound and strong condition. No flaking or lifting of paint, ancient restoration in place (most likely when the panel was cradled).
provenance: private collection, Somerset, England, from the Collection of the late Andrew Guy Thomson and previously Sotheby's Lot 223, 06 December 1988.
A very fine and exquisite late 16th-century oil painting, on wood panel, attributed to the Flemish master Adrien Thomasz Key 91544-1590), a distinguished figure of the Antwerp Mannerist school.
