About the Item
Signature: Farmer Smoking his Pipe
Medium: India and colored inks
"Dorne never got around to producing his volume of instruction for the Famous Artists Schools, but a lot of that material was delivered via the Famous Artists Magazine. Given his lavish and detailed treatment of this painting’s production, this has to be considered one of Dorne’s most important works. I think of this as a Regionalist work, Dorne’s answer to Grant Wood and Thomas Hart Benton, American art’s two biggest names in this period".
—Roger Reed
