About the Item
"Tlacolotero I" is an original oil painting on canvas by Alejandro Mojica. The artist signed the piece lower right. The title of this piece comes from the Guerrero region in southern Mexico. This state’s ethnic groups are renowned for their unique music and dance, the best known of which is the Danza de los Tlacoloteros. This dance explores the theme of agriculture and tells the story of the Tlacololeros, or owners of the tlacololes/cornfields. The Tlacoloteros chase away evil spirits from the crops. This painting depicts a Tlacolotero guarding a cornfield to ensure a bountiful harvest.

Born in Teocaltiche in the Mexican state of Jalisco. His work has been exhibited widely in more than 140 exhibitions throughout Mexico and abroad. Some of his most notable exhibitions have been in institutions such as Galeria Praxis, Museo de Arte Moderno de Queretaro, Museo Casa Diego Rivera in Guanajuato, Praxis Lima Peru, Center for the Fine Arts in Miami, Community Art Council in Vancouver, Dallas Art Fair, Slato Gallery in Caracas and the National Gallery in Taiwan. He currently lives and works in his studio in Culiacan Sinaloa.
