About the Item

Constantin.Fides, 2006 Acrylic on canvas (Signed on reverse) 66 9/10 H × 47 1/5 W in 170 H × 120 W cm "Constantin's Memoirs" project represents the questions posed by the artist Alexandru Rădvan regarding the personality of the great Emperor Constantine, also known as St. Constantine. The moment caught in the large-scale paintings is that of establishing Christianity as the only state religion. The figure of Emperor Constantine appears as the very representation of imposing individual will on humanity in the name of divine inspiration. Rădvan wrote: “Constantine, a character meant to change by his decision to formalize a new religion the destiny of mankind, a man between the tradition and spirituality of the world before, and the miracle of the love of his neighbor, a leader trapped between the temptation of the Imperator's absolute power and acceptance of obedience to New God, crucified and victorious of death."
