2023

About the Item

Wind & Dust, 2023 acrylic on cardboard 119 H x 79 W cm 46 27/32 H x 31 7/64 W cm The series of painted cardboards by Alexandru Rădvan is about our moments of 'respiro' about the minutes/seconds when we notice the little things or gestures that surround us that are not of significant importance in our lives, but that nevertheless, in the end, define who we are as persons and how we live. In this new cycle of works, the artist captures blinks, moments, and states. Referring to this series of paintings, Alexandru Rădvan writes: "I am seduced by the idea of creating something beautiful, a peaceful atmosphere, with beautiful things, but made a little rough, brutal, ungentle, with relatively simple, primitive, almost sordid gestures and acts, and all these "rough" and somehow unfinished things become beautiful and delicate when they meet. I am also fascinated by the seconds in which nothing happens, in which a man and a woman simply stand next to each other, in which the gaze hovers aimlessly, in which the teeth have not yet sunk into the apple skin, in the second before the wave breaks and only the dogs wag their tails without making a sound. And I'd like to remember the millions of seconds that make up life between what happens, as something precious." The artwork was exhibited n the solo show "When Nothing Happens" from 2023.

  • My childhood - 21st Century, Landscape, Yellow, Green, Blue, Figurative
    By Alexandru Rădvan
    Located in Baden-Baden, DE
My Childhood, 2013 Acrylic on canvas (Signed front right corner) 79 1/2 H × 127 1/5 W in. 202 H × 323 W cm The artwork “My childhood” was part of the exhibition “Epic”(2013, see install shot) dedicated to the great adventurer Ulysses, a character that has the only desire to come back home. Returning home involves a series of adventures, memories, desires, tests. Heraclitus in Plato's "Cratylus" was saying: "Everything changes and nothing stays still [...] you cannot step twice in the same river." "My Childhood" is about remembering an ideal time, about sunny days full of warmth and freedom. It's about childhood, as we remember it over years, as a time and place with unprecedented perfumes. Rădvan wrote about this work: “It has happened that none of the places where I grew up exist anymore. Either they have disappeared, or they have changed so much that they have become a new place that does not mean anything for me, which I do not have a common history. I avoid them because it makes me sad not to recognize them and I do not want them to hate them. This painting is an old memory of my "Paradiso perduto".
