Men at Work #5 (Framed Figurative Oil Painting of Construction Worker in Red)

1980

About the Item

Realistic figurative oil painting on canvas of a lone man working on an industrial construction site with a rust red backdrop Palette is composed of grey gunmetal, deep rust red, black, mulberry, and golden yellow Men at Work #5, painted by Allan Skriloff, ca. 1980's 42 x 54 x 2.5 inches with a custom steel frame Excellent condition, ready to hang as is Skriloff shines a glorified light on the muscles of men in hard hats that sweat and contort aboard an oil rig, elevating blue worker brawniness to an other-worldly status. This figurative painting highlights the beauty found in the every day. Scenes one might overlook are given careful attention by the artist's trained eye. A lone worker is captured behind a foreground of metal bars against a backdrop of rest red. Shadow's cast by the man's hard hat allude to his anonymity. The piece is complemented with a custom thin steel floater frame, is in excellent condition, and ready to hang as is. About "Men at Work:" While on a trip to Australia, I was in Alice Spring. Where I took an excursion to Palm Valley. My tour guide mentioned there was gas fields in a remote section of the Outback. I said I'd love to go there and he replied, "no worries, Mate - we'll get you there.” He happened to be a pilot and we flew in his prop plane two hours due west, landing at al man-made oasis in the middle of the desert. I spent several hours taking photographs of the site and the men at work. Over the next ten years I created 25 paintings, many of which are formed from several different photographs. About the Artist: Allan attended Pratt Institute in 1962 and 1963, then transferred to Parsons School of Design, studying interior design. He studied at the Art Students League the summers of 1964 and 1965, and then on and off for the next decade. Allan has shown at OK Harris and Jakendoff Bochi Gallery in SoHo NYC. He has also shown at General Electric Headquarters and Manhattan College. An amusing Allan factoid: he has had 6 paintings on The Days OF Our Lives soap opera over the course of several episodes that were meant to take place in an art gallery. More recently, Allan has shown at the Woodstock Art Association and Hunter Gallery. Three of his Oil Worker paintings series were bought by Precision Drilling oil company in Houston Texas. He has had several paintings on display and loan at the Emerson Resorts, an award-winning, four-diamond property here in the Hudson Valley. He is also represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, New York. Allan was supposed to have ten paintings from his musician series on display at the Woodstock Play House this season but due to Covid 19 it has been put on hold till next season. Allan was born in 1944 and grew up in Forest Hills, Queens section of N.Y. He attended both Pratt Institute and Parsons School of Design and after graduating had several Jobs with several interior design firms before striking out on his own by opening Interior Analysis which oversaw works around the world and published many times.

  • Large French Figurative Expressionist Oil Painting Seated Figure Claude Weisbuch
    By Claude Weisbuch
    Located in Surfside, FL
WEISBUCH, Claude. Oil on Canvas Framed size: 39” H x 28” W Canvas, without frame: 32” high x 21 ¼” wide. Carved wooden frame with antique gold-leaf finish Claude Weisbuch, 1927-2014 French painter, draftsman and engraver. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts (School of Fine Arts) in Nancy and upon graduation became a professor of engraving at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de of St. Etienne. His first solo exhibition was in 1957. In 1968 , he became a full member of the Society of French Painters-Engravers . In 1997 he was awarded the Legion of Honor His work is essentially devoted to engraving, by which he likes to translate, thanks to the line, the life, movement and character of his characters: Punchinels, harlequins, musicians or equestrian scenes. He practices various techniques ( lithography, drypoint etching etc.) that he puts to use in the illustration of bibliophile books. Claude Weisbuch is also a painter and draftsman. His favorite colors are ochres, browns and whites, with which he seeks to introduce the effects of light by compositions where the line and finesse of the drawing preserve the life found in his engravings. His precise and dynamic line delivers a moving and swirling work on themes he loves: theater, opera, equestrian, musicians, card players, Kabuki dancers and many portraits. His works have the appearance of unfinished sketches mixing few colors but a great vivacity of the line. He illustrated many limited edition signed fine art books. Alon with Christo, Arman and Cesar he is considered among the great post war French artists of the last generation.
