About the Item

Amitabh Sengupta - Untitled - 36 x 48 inches (unframed size) Oil on Canvas ** This work will be shipped in roll form to save on shipping cost. Mythscape Series : This series emerged in late nineties when the Artist returned to India after his long absence and decided to travel around India visiting heritage sites, known and unknown places. The various ruins, structures, Haveli Doors, inscribed walls, so on. The visual experience such as, in Ajanta, Mahabalipuram, or Gingee, had an impact in his thoughts: past is also a tangible present. The present-past is a reminiscence, a myth. A myth can be developed into further transformation, and that became his starting point in Mythscape Series. Style : Amitabh Sengupta’s works TIME is depicted in various metaphors. As in the remains of rock-cut shrines or shelters, the Haveli door, the walls or a seascape, they all carry the mark of TIME - the texture of sun and wind, rain and corrosion and so on. Objects of past, and the objects of now, all stand within the frame of present. The meaning of past and present seemed to have merged in a zone of real existence - within the space and time of the artist's experience. Again as metaphor of time, the element of myth enters in Amitabh's works as often, as if to merge past into the present. Amitabh uses oil in a modernists' way of classical manner, layers after layer, and often using the effect of the under layer. The major environment he likes to create on the canvases has an imposing feeling of reality that invariably merged into an unreal zone. The unknown elements are vital as they take real objects into a sense of continuity and motion. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1941. Anil Kumar Yadav - Aradhana-78 Acrylic on Canvas 36 x 48 inches, 2024 ( Rolled & Delivered ) STYLE : Anil Kumar Yadav is an Artist from Kolkata who was born in 1984 a village in Uttar Pradesh. He grew up among villagers with modest lives and the village culture. The Rangolis at the village festival and the local potters’ fine works of art inspired him greatly towards art as a hobby and potential career from early childhood. His father was then posted to Kolkata so their family relocated to the city. Once the capital of India, with its rich cultural heritage and character immediately caught my attention. He started painting for the first time in the city. Since the central theme to his paintings is related to present day society, his works appear photographic or naturalistic. The religious ghats of Varanasi, Haridwar and other antique places attracted him for their cultural heritage characterised by the holy saints, antique architectures, old idol sculptures and mysticism, spirituality. So he portrayed the simplicity of the architectural doors, temples, sculptures and the beautiful narrow streets and ‘galis’ which holds beauty that can not be described in words. He always prefers a highly realistic approach in his paintings for whatever he sees in his surroundings. He started to represent paintings in a form whose expression manifests a step ahead of photography. He has always tried to reach to a horizon where photography cannot reach and make a statement what is called hyperrealism.
