In "Bicicletas", Ana Perpinyá immerses us in a seemingly ordinary yet symbolically rich scene: a pile of bicycles, either abandoned or awaiting a new life. ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ana Perpinyà (Barcelona, 1965) is a contemporary Catalan artist known for her distinctive figurative painting style. From an early age, she demonstrated a strong artistic talent—creating portraits at just 13 years old and receiving commissions from private clients and magazines during her teenage years in Sant Cugat del Vallès.
She received formal training at the Llotja School of Art and the Massana School in Barcelona, where she built a solid academic foundation that has influenced her unique style.
Throughout her career, Perpinyà has exhibited her work across Europe, including in Germany, Amsterdam, London, France, and Portugal, as well as in the United States, in cities such as Miami, Atlanta, and others in Florida. In Spain, her exhibitions have taken place in Madrid, Granada, Málaga, Marbella, Vitoria, Castellón, and Barcelona. Her work has been featured in magazines, newspapers, and catalogs, and she has contributed to television, radio, and journalism through illustrations and appearances.
Perpinyà is dedicated exclusively to painting, working primarily in oil on canvas. Her work reflects a deep emotional connection to human experience and a careful observation of her surroundings. She frequently uses warm colors, with red being a constant presence in her palette. She cites Joaquín Sorolla as a major influence, whom she regards as a timeless genius. Music also plays an important role in her creative process, helping her express what she feels and observes.

This artwork , signed IF in the left down corner, by the author Iain Faulkner, is a very well studied composition with two dancers, dressed in blue color, lying on a beautiful mosaic floor with gold border, having a rest. The circle design of the mosaic, the figures in three quarters in parallel; opposite the postures, the suits, and the colors blue and flesh. This complementation above and below, and to the left and right of the painting, gives the painting a surprising composition and excellent balance.
Despite the thick brushwork, the author achieves a very subtle effect in the definition of the two beautiful figures and very successful effects of light and shadow.
Iain Faulkner acknowledges the influence on his painting of artists such as Sargent, Degas, Whistler and, especially, Vermeer, showing scenes with figures performing everyday tasks while lost in thought, like this two dancers.
This piece was originaly purchased from Albemarle Gallery in London.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Glasgow in 1973 and graduating from Glasgow School of Art in 1996 with a BA (Honours) in Fine Art.
His degree show was sell-out.
Iain Faulkner is now one of Britain's top figurative painters, a stablished artist with the Albemarle/Pontone Galleries in London, and with numerous solo shows in New York, Paris, Geneva, Monaco and Bologna .
His work appears in many private and corporate collections and in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
