About the Item

"Cheat Day Is Always When I Find Something to Eat" is an evocative piece from Andreas Claussen that depicts an abstract scene of an astronaut eating an entire cake at once. Andreas Claussen (b. 1988, Hanover, Germany) is a pioneering oil painter whose journey from law studies to the art world underscores his deep-seated passion for visual storytelling. Claussen's oeuvre is particularly noted for the 'FLOOD' series, where an anonymous astronaut traverses a dystopian, flood-ravaged Earth. This series is a testament to Claussen's ability to weave humor and irony with vibrant, textured oil paintings that delve into resilience, optimism, and the essence of human existence. Through the lens of his faceless protagonist, Claussen invites viewers to explore themes of adaptability and the everyday challenges of life, often incorporating iconic symbols like the inflatable pool flamingo to critique and reflect on human culture. Living and working in Gehrden/Lower Saxony, Germany, Claussen has showcased his distinct narrative and aesthetic at galleries and art fairs across Germany, the United Kingdom, and the USA. His work, a blend of traditional techniques and modern 3D rendering, reveals a multifaceted approach to art, engaging audiences with its deep honesty and humor. Despite an upbringing detached from the art world, Claussen's transition from prospective lawyer to acclaimed artist highlights his innate creativity and dedication to exploring the complexities of human experience through his art. His commitment to painting, initially focusing on seascapes before evolving into the compelling 'FLOOD' series, illustrates a dynamic exploration of thematic and stylistic boundaries, making Andreas Claussen a significant voice in contemporary art.
