This image is part of the artist's early series of portraits depicting queer figures in domestic or outdoor settings. The pose makes a humorous allusion to the trope of Venus in classical painting, often depicted from the back, borrowing specifically from such Spanish masters as Velazquez and Sorolla. Only in stead of her customary mirror, the male figure here is looking at/scrolling through his phone.
