About the Item

Angelo Pavan is a Venetian painter trained at the School of Drawing and Plastics at the Accademia Olimpica in Vicenza. He is known for his landscapes, particularly lagoon views of Venice and Chioggia, but also mountains often with Divisionist references and mellow brushstrokes. The painting depicts a seascape with boats. In the foreground, a large sailing ship flanked by a small rowboat dominates; on the right are mooring poles. The style is realistic, with visible brush strokes and soft colors creating a serene atmosphere. A coeval frame measuring 51x44.5x5 cm is present. The work is in good condition and is signed at lower left "A. Pavan." On the back of the panel are inscriptions, "Sailing ship at rest. Angelo Pavan. To dear Irisi. Venice" and a somewhat misspelled date where it reads '42.
