About the Item
Ann Vollum’s artistic practice is deeply rich and evocative, blending elements of personal history, cultural influences, and a commitment to sustainability. The use of repurposed materials not only adds layers of meaning to her work but also aligns with a growing awareness of environmental concerns in contemporary art.
The meditative and slow nature of Vollum’s process likely imbues her pieces with a sense of depth and introspection, inviting viewers to slow down and engage with the intricate details and narratives woven into each stitch. The incorporation of ambiguous and dark narratives adds an element of mystery and invites viewers to explore their own emotions and interpretations.
Vollum’s childhood experiences in Africa, as well as her travels in Pakistan and India, provide a rich tapestry of cultural influences that manifest in her iconography and use of pattern. This fusion of diverse cultural elements not only reflects her personal journey but also serves as a bridge for viewers to connect with different parts of the world and their own experiences.
By aiming to capture the imagination of the viewers and inviting them to bring their own narratives to the work, Vollum creates a dynamic exchange between artist and audience. Each piece becomes a vessel for storytelling and reflection, fostering a deeper connection and dialogue between creator and observer.
Overall, her artistic practice is a testament to the power of creativity to transcend boundaries and evoke emotion, inviting viewers on a journey of exploration and self-discovery.

Fiber painting: 'La mémoire ne se perd pas'
By Federica Patera and Andrea Sbra Pereg
Located in New York, NY
The brief text talks about memory, starting from 4 books e mixing 4 different languages: Italian, French, Greek and Sanskrit. The artwork’s material is a particular kind of recycled hard fabric that recalls paper.
The duo was officially born in 2017 with the RAR project, which focuses on the value of the analogy in literature. At the heart of their investigation is the dynamic that leads reading to become writing, and other way the user to become a creator, a maker, mixing roles.
The exchange that is established guarantees the transmission, that it goes beyond repetition and finds its completion in transformation. The eternity of an experience, whatever it is (physical, material, emotional, intellectual), is measured by its capacity to be an eternal breeding ground for discovery and knowledge.
Their work was exhibited in solo shows by art galleries, such as Raffaella De Chirico Contemporary Art in Turin and Manuel Zoia Gallery in Milan, and in Art Fair such as ArtVerona and WOP in Lugano (CH). In 2021, they were finalists in the Cramum Award. Between October 2022 and January 2023, they took part in the World Textile Biennale – Italian Act, a series of three exhibitions curated by Barbara Pavan. In January 2023 they attended their first group show in New York at the Ivy Brown Gallery.

Penelope or Parque of modern times, Barbara d’Antuono sews by hand like others recite mantras and decides nothing in advance. She lets images arise without any particular coherence with each other, but to which she gives substance in a kind of urgency, in the form of a strip not drawn but sewn. The exhibition, like the eponymous book, covers seven years of this assiduous and patient work through nearly 30 textile works, real freeze frames made of the emotions and memories of the artist, like so many portraits of humanity. . Linda Stein, Loreen Arbus Says Tango is Egalitarian 974 - Feminist Contemporary Mixed Media Sculptural Tapestry
Loreen Arbus Says Tango is Egalitarian 974 is from Linda Stein's Sexism series, which advocates an expanded perspective of gender constructions--one that includes non-binary views of masculinities and femininities, allowing for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Kindness.
Stein began to produce sculptural tapestries in 2013, in which she combines archival images with multiple fabrics and leather. Loreen Arbus Says Tango is Egalitarian 974 breaks from the view of tango as a traditional gender hierarchy of a woman being led by a man by showing imagery of couples of various identity configurations--male/male, female/female, binary/non-binary, standing/in a wheelchair, mixed race...
