About the Item
Anton Vorauer: 1907-1979. Well listed artist with auction results over $11,000. He is mostly associated with Austria and North Carolina where he settled. This wonderful piece came out of a Miami estate. The colors are fantastic. Painting is oil on board measuring 18 inches high by 14 wide. The frame measures 23 5/8 inches high by 19 5/8 wide. It is signed faintly Vorauer lower right.

Anton Vorauer
Anton Vorauer was an art professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. While painting at the Parthenon during the Nazi invasion of Greece, he was drafted involuntarily as a translator of Greek for the German Army. After the war, wife Annie emigrated to the USA where he earned many lucrative commissions as an itinerant portrait painter working in oil. Vorauer’s works are in private collections throughout Europe as well as New York, Middle Tennessee and North Carolina. Among his patrons include Prentice Cooper (1895–1969), former Governor of Tennessee. He died in February 1985 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
