Arnoldo Ciarrocchi (Civitanova Marche 1916 – 2004) Arnoldo Ciarrocchi was born in Civitanova Marche (Italy) in 1916. He enrolled in the libro d’Urbino School, and in 1938 he moved to Rome, where he worked as a pressman at the Chalcography Chamber for seventeen years. His first engravings appear in the 1940s, among which are the White Prints and The Pines of Monte Mario. In 1947, Ciarrocchi exhibited his work at the Galleria del Secolo (Gallery of the Century) with Sadun, Scialoja, and Stradone, and in 1950 at the National Chalcography, he exhibited one hundred and twenty-seven prints from the engravings regarding the years spent at Urbino. During the span of his long career, Ciarrocchi obtained prestigious recognitions, among which, in 1951, he received an award for his engravings at the first International Art Biennial in San Paolo, Brazil and in 1952 he received the first award for the prints engraved at the Quadrennial in Rome. In 1955, Ciarrocchi received the first award for the etchings at the first Biennial of the Italian engravings in Venice. At the 1962 Venice Biennial, he presented himself with ten scenes of Fontespina painted with watercolors in order to appear in 1976 at the Quadrennial in Rome with seven great scenes of Asola. In Jesi, in 1988, the year of engravings, he received the “Rosa Papa-Tamburi” award. Ciarrocchi is considered to be among the best contemporary engravers as a result of his refined techniques and his outstanding graphic sensitivity. In order to emphasize the powerful component of light used in Ciarrocchi’s graphic signature, Valerio Volpini poetically wrote: “It is the Adriatic light that runs like a liquid through Ciarrocchi’s watercolors and engravings”. 19th Century seascape oil painting of Penzance harbour, Cornwall
By William Edward Webb
Located in Nr Broadway, Worcestershire
William Edward Webb British, (1862-1903) Penzance Harbour Oil on canvas, signed Image size: 29 inches x 45.5 inches Size including frame: 38 inches x 54.5 inches A pleasing coastal painting of Penzance Harbour at low tide by William Edward Webb. In the foreground, a fisherman sells his catch to a woman and her daughter, whilst figures in horses and carts wait for others to unload their boats. William Edward Webb was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in 1862 to William Benjamin Webb and Ellen Butler. His father was a printer and an artist and it is highly likely he received tuition from him. Following the death of his mother, his father remarried and moved the family to Manchester sometime after 1871. By the 1880’s, Webb had started working as an artist and later set up a studio at 30 Exchange Buildings in Manchester. He began exhibiting at the Manchester City Art Gallery from 1890, where he showed more than 60 paintings during his lifetime. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy and Walker Art Gallery Liverpool from 1892. He married Clara Foster in 1899 and the couple lived at 1 Sylvan Grove, Chorlton Upon Medlock in South Manchester with their daughter Florrie. He became friends with the artist Walter Emsley (1860-1938) who also lived in Manchester. Although he spent the rest of his life in Manchester, Webb travelled throughout the UK painting coastal and marine scenes around the main ports and harbours. He spent a great deal of time in the Isle of Mann painting numerous scenes along the coast including views of Peel and Douglas Harbour, subjects he frequently returned to. Webb painted in a highly distinctive style; loose and informal but which manages to retain the sense of perspective. He struggled with ill health and depression throughout his life which sadly led to his suicide 9 November, 1903. In 1974, a retrospective exhibition was held at The Old Customs House and Old Solent House in Lymington, which brought a new found interest in his work. His paintings are now highly sought after and are represented in many collections and Museums including the Astley Hall...

La Mujer Isla Surrealist Painting
By Enrique Chavarría
Located in Lake Worth Beach, FL
The Island Woman (La Mujer Isla) Artist signed and titled. Enrique Chavarría (1927-1998) was a Mexican painter and neo-surrealist, whose fantastic imagery carries forward the work of the Mexican Surrealists. He created hundreds of easel-sized oil paintings on masonite and numerous smaller works. For four decades his principal patron was Bryna Prensky, an American gallery owner from Florida who moved to Mexico City in 1954. She bought most of Chavarría’s known works for her gallery and her own collection. Prensky said she often found Chavarría in his pajamas at mid-day. He read widely and painted dreamlike images that reflect his wide-ranging scholarly interests. Much of his work is thought to have been inspired by poetry, especially the writings of André Breton, Paul Éluard, Arthur Rimbaud, and Paul Valéry; by the classic surrealism of Salvador Dalí; and by the paintings of Mexican neo-surrealist artists Remedios Varo...
