Bernard Meninsky was a painter of figures and landscapes in oils, watercolour and gouache. He was born in 1891 in Karotopin, the Ukraine, of Jewish parents; brought to England six weeks later and lived in Liverpool. He attended the Liverpool School of Art, winning various scholarships and the King's Medal; worked in Paris and studied at the Slade School 1912-13.
Meninsky worked for Gordon Craig in Florence 1913 and then taught life drawing at the Central School. He exhibited with the N.E.A.C. from 1914, became a member in 1923; and also exhibited with the London Group from 1916 becoming a member in 1919.
He was an official War Artist 1914-18 and had his fiirst one-man exhibition at the Goupil Gallery in 1919. Meninsky taught at Westminster School of Art from 1920 and worked in the south of France in 1922 and 1937 and in Spain 1936. He taught at the City of Oxford Art School from 1940-5 and had an Arts Council memorial exhibition from 1951-2 and a retrospective exhibition at the Adams Gallery 1958.

Bernard Meninsky
Bernard Meninsky was born in Karotopin, Ukraine. He was brought up in Liverpool, where he attended the School of Art in 1906. He studied briefly at Royal College of Art and Académie Julian, Paris. With a scholarship, Meninsky entered the Slade School of Fine Art in 1912–13. In 1919, he held his first solo show at Goupil Gallery. Meninsky showed with London Group and NEAC. He also illustrated Minton's poems L'Allegro and Il Penseroso published in 1946. In his memory, the Arts Council put on a memorial exhibition in 1951–52 and a retrospective show took place at Adams Gallery in 1958. Further solo shows took place in other major British art galleries. His work is represented in Tate Gallery, British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Imperial War Museum, Arts Council, National Gallery of Ireland, the galleries of Hull, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Sheffield and many others.

Richard Turner's work is mainly figurative painting, within Arcadian landscape settings similar to the compositions in renaissance and mannerist art. Turneramon's first stay in Egypt had a significant effect on his painting style and content.
