Painting serves as an expressive release that is integral to her well-being. She centers the content of her work on her lived experience, drawing from pop culture and everyday people and situations that surround her. In vivid color palettes and bold patterns, her exquisitely composed portraits are confidently rendered and the results are consummately appealing. Brittany’s works were featured as a part of the opening of the URBAN NATION Museum for Contemporary Urban Art in Berlin, Germany in 2017. She has painted incredible public street art along with New York's Wall Therapy Crew, a community-level intervention using mural art as a vehicle to address a collective need for inspiration, with whom she painted her first-ever mural in 2015. A self-described 'athlete first,’ Brittany graduated from the University of Maine following four years on their Division 1 basketball team. Brittany reprioritized her art once an injury influenced her choice whether to go pro. She is able to bring her love of basketball and art together in the program she founded and leads, "Peculiar Asphalt," that engages young people in the completion of outstanding asphalt murals on the basketball courts of the City of Rochester. Brittany is also a leading artist for the City of Rochester's Youth Mural Arts Program, Roc Paint Division.

Like the Westerns I grew up with, my own work is camouflaged in a veil of nostalgia. The figures in my work are often portrayed against a stark background. This forces the viewer to recognize the myth before the critique exposes itself. I work from observation and my imagination using watercolor and traditional printmaking methods. The figurative images I create are heavily researched. By using the West, a subject that I am both familiar with and continue to question, I aim to engage with our inherent perceptions of the past and the myths embedded within. - Jed Webster Smith
