CARLOS NADAL Spanish, 1917 - 1998 TEATRO COMEDOR signed "Nadal" (lower right) titled & dated "Teatro Comedor / 1986" (on the reverse) oil on canvas 32 x 39-1/2 inches (81 x 100 cm.) framed: 40 x 47-1/2 inches (101.3 x 120.3 cm.) PROVENANCE Private Collection, Barcelona, Spain Carlos Nadal was born in Paris in 1917, in 1921 with four years he moved with his family to Barcelona. It is formed at the School of La Lonja. In 1935 he won three awards: the one of the Watercolors Association of Barcelona, ​​the Mural Composition Count Lavern and the Masriera prize. In 1936 he received a scholarship from the Barcelona City Council, thanks to which he was able to enter the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts. He exhibited for the first time in a collective exhibition at the Dalmau gallery in 1941. In 1944 he made his first individual show at the La Pinacoteca room in Barcelona. In 1946, the City Council of the city of Barcelona granted him a scholarship to continue his information in Paris at L´École des Beaux Arts. In the French capital he participated in the halls of Autumn. In 1948 he married the Belgian sculpture Flore Zoe Jovi and moved to live in Belgium. Here, as he confessed, he discovered the effects of light on painting and the use of color that would already be a distinctive sign in his work. The influence of the Fauve was remarkable. They were a few years of continuous successes and excessive activity, exhibited in Belgium, France, Spain, Amsterdan and the United States. His subjects were very varied; beaches, urban landscape, natural landscape, seascapes, etc. In 1954 he exhibited with great success Kunsterein Düsseldorf and at the Royal Academy in London, and won the painting prize at the International SPA Contest.
