Christina Major was born in Concord, New Hampshire in 1982. She has lived all over the world including Hawaii, France, New York and more currently Florida. Christina has achieved her MFA at Florida Atlantic University and has exhibited throughout South Florida. Her work has been collected both nationally and internationally.
Christina Major is a portrait painter interested in the ways the identity of both artist and subject can coexist in a painting. Major's graduate thesis exhibition, Components of self, evolved from her desire to combine large scale portrait painting with writing. She developed methods of using paint to express a merging of herself with the individual painted in the portrait, resulting in a hybrid of herself and the person depicted.

Christina Major
The work of American painter Christina Major sees a convergence of styles that she has made uniquely her own. Collectors will find traces of Pop art, Photorealism and Expressionism in the wide range of distinctive portraits she has created over the years.
A closer inspection of each large-scale canvas, which is prepared with gesso and stretched, will also reveal the integration of text — Major layers hand-painted words and phrases in cursive over each of her painted subjects’ faces, which draws on her background in graphic design and affords the artist the chance to share her own memories and opinions or general thoughts on the subject of a given work.
Major, a native of Concord, New Hampshire, centers her paintings on cultural icons. She has painted the visages of American musician Prince, actresses Lauren Bacall and Audrey Hepburn, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, as well as Pop art staples such as James Dean and Marilyn Monroe.
After living in several places around the world, Major is now based in Florida and earned her MFA at Florida Atlantic University, and has exhibited throughout South Florida. Her work is held in private collections in the United States and elsewhere.

"My birth place is Yakhroma town, in the vicinity of Moscow. It is situated on high hills, from where broad Bruegelian vistas are open. The uneven terrain with significant differences of high and low; a canal between the Moskva river and the Volga; small rivers, woods and villages; a nearby ancient town of Dmitrov, which is equal to Moscow in age; ships cruising the canal and trains outdistancing them – all this I saw from my window since my early years. It was a view that embraced all the diversity of the world. This is why I can say that the impressions of my childhood and youth – beautiful nature and remarkable people – are the most important ones.
In the museum of Moscow's St. Andronic Monastery I copied the best examples of the old Russian painting of the 15th-17th centuries.
My own style evolved from the ancient icon...
