About the Item
Saint-Firmin is a unique oil on canvas painting by contemporary artist Christophe Dupety, dimensions are 115 cm × 75 cm (45.2 × 29.5 in). The artwork is signed, sold unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
In this series, the artist tackles a highly controversial subject: bullfighting. However, rather than focusing on the confrontation between man and beast, the violence, or the surrounding spectacle, Christophe Dupety places the animal itself at the heart of his compositions.
It is the raw power of the bull that captivates Dupety, and he masterfully conveys this force in his work. Every nuance of the animal’s movement—its strength, grace, and contorted energy—is captured in a single, dynamic brushstroke, vibrant and meticulously controlled, alive with a spectrum of colors.
These “flowing” colors, applied with rapid, expressive strokes across the canvas or paper, hover over more abstract, flat backgrounds. Within these backgrounds, hints of the bullfighting world emerge: the yellow of the arena sand, and the pink, red, or purple of the matador’s cape.
Through this series of contemporary paintings, Christophe Dupety celebrates life in its wild, untamed form, offering viewers fleeting glimpses of an animal fighting to survive.

Christophe Dupety
Christophe Dupety’s paintings express the vitality and spontaneity of gesture, free of all interference. They also reflect a taste for taking risks: refusing to control everything but, on the contrary, wanting to confront the chaos of life by involving phenomena linked to weightlessness, flow and accidents. For the artist, these can be used in a way that contributes to what he wants us to see: the joy of painting. An artist who favours a form of painting that can be read immediately, Christophe Dupety seeks to encourage a spontaneous emotional response in the viewer. “I always try to emphasise the joy of painting in my work: colour, shape and fluidity, and above all a sort of graphic challenge in which things always seem spontaneous and graphic in any case, because drawing has always been very important for me.’’
