MANUEL GARCÍA Y RODRÍGUEZ Spanish, 1863 - 1925 FLIRTING AT THE WELL signed and dated "Garcia y Rodriguez" 1913 (lower right) oil on wood panel 8-3/4 X 12-5/8 inches (22 X 32 cm.) framed: 12-5/8 X 16-5/8 (32 X 42 cm.) PROVENANCE Private Spanish Collector, Seville, Spain Exquisite oil on wood panel by Garcia y Rodriguez, bathed with a powerful light of noon, where his brushstroke loose and careful made of small strokes of great technical perfection. In this work his lyrical feeling that he perceived with nature is noticed. The landscape of Sanlucar de Barrameda with its house, white well, flower pots and orange trees, is reflected in this work. Manuel García y Rodríguez (Sevilla, 1863 — 6 de mayo de 1925) was a Spanish painter. He went through the seminary and the provincial institute, where he obtained a bachelor's degree, and received his first painting lessons from José de la Vega Marrugal and his brothers Pedro and Francisco, belonging to a family of Sevillian artists, costumbrista and romantic painting , but of a detailed and descriptive realism, and linked to the newly created Free Academy of Fine Arts in Seville. He later trained at the School of Fine Arts in Seville, where he was a disciple of Eduardo Cano and Manuel Wssel de Guimbarda, and connected with other young Sevillian artists such as Sánchez Perrier, Fernando Tirado, Virgilio Mattoni, José Arpa or Rico Cejudo. Throughout his life he participated several times in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts (Spain), obtaining in 1887 a bronze medal with the work The banks of the Guadalquivir and in 1890 and 1895 the second medal. His painting was directed to the landscape and custom scenes that he practiced almost exclusively throughout his career. Interested in this pictorial genre he traveled to Madrid, where he came into contact with the pleinairist circle of Professor Carlos de Haes, although he dedicated most of his pictorial work to Seville, the Guadalquivir and its surroundings, actively participating in the neighboring landscape school locality of Alcalá de Guadaíra. He collaborated as an illustrator for the weekly Blanco y Negro. Manuel García always closely followed the work of Emilio Sánchez Perrier, also from Seville and eight years older than him. Their close relationship and friendship are known, and they even shared displacements to paint outdoors in the town of Alcalá de Guadaíra. His work can be seen in the Museum of Fine Arts in Seville, in the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Malaga where works such as Sanlucar de Barrameda, Sanlucar de Barrameda Beach of 1895-1900, Fishing 1907 and Landscape of the Jara of 1910 are preserved, and in various private collections,

    Channel. 1970, cardboard, oil, 108x73 cm Jadviga Žilvinska (1918-2010) was born in Tallinn. She grew up in Liepāja, where her great interest in art began and strengthened, which led the young artist to study at the Art Academy of Latvia. During her studies at the Academy, she studied with K. Ubāns, V. Tone and J. Liepiņš, and defended her diploma thesis under the guidance of L. Liberts. Later on, she devoted her entire life to art, working at the Liepāja School of Fine Arts and as a portraitist at the "Māksla" combine. She had four favourite themes: landscapes, portraits, flowers and sacred painting. Her works have lyricism and inner harmony. In the portraits, we see not only the outer form of a person, but the artist allows us to look into the very essence of a person - it is likely that the models themselves often saw something new and bright in themselves through the artist's vision. The works are executed in various techniques - tempera, oil, pastel and watercolour. CV: 1938 - Graduated from the Liepaja Secondary School of Applied Arts, Department of Decorative Painting. 1943 - Latvian Academy of Art, L. Liberts Figurative Painting Workshop with her diploma work "At the Artist's" 1946-1948 - teacher of painting and drawing at Liepāja Fine Arts High School. 1948-1966 - portraitist at the "Māksla" combine Participated in exhibitions since 1948. Member of the Artists' Union since 1966. Solo exhibitions in Riga, Jelgava, Sigulda (1972); Riga (1975; 1978; two in 1981; 1986; 1994), Jurmala (1979). Works exhibited in Latvia as well as abroad (Poland, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Finland, Venezuela, Germany, Hungary). The works are located in: "Portrait of Cardinal Julian Vaivoda", 1983, in the Vatican Museum in Rome "Portrait of Pope John Paul II, 1982, in the Roman Catholic Metropolitan Curia of Riga The altarpieces "The Heart of Jesus" and "Our Lady of Fatima", the paintings "John the Baptist" and "The Holy Family" , all from the late 1960s, in the Church of St Mary Magdalene...
