About the Item

Danny Galieote Freedom From Fear, Ed. 1/10 Giclee on Archival Acid-Free Rag Paper 35” x 27” Image Unframed, 46 x 38" Framed "This series of works are inspired by and employed through a modern appropriation of Norman Rockwell's Four Freedoms. Rockwell created them in response to FDR's famous speech in which he mentions Freedom of Speech, Freedom from Want, Freedom from Fear, and Freedom of Worship. Not only do all these apply to our lives today socially and culturally but also, they work nicely into my personal style of painting, which gleans from the WPA artists of the 1930s and 40s. I love the sincerity and solid craftsmanship in design with which great artists of the 40s, like Rockwell, created memorable and meaningful works for everyone to enjoy. I am using these classic means to create a modern version we can relate to today." Danny Galieote A California native, Galieote began his art career in Disney animation studios. A top animator for films such as the Lion King and Tarzan as a character artist, Galieote honed his skill at hand drawing and the human figure. Well versed in art history, his influences include Renaissance masters such as Michelangelo, Rubens, and the Mannerist, Jacopo Pontormo, as well as American realist painter George Bellows and other AshCan artists. Incorporating whimsical elements with modern social concerns, Galieote imbues light-hearted imagery with deeper connotations, illuminating timeless truths of the dualities of human nature.

By Danny Galieote
Located in Laguna Beach, CA
DANNY GALIEOTE Riptide Study Conté and Gouache on Archival Paper 30 x 24 1/2 inches, Framed Danny Galieote has a propensity for capturing the quintessentials of Americana in works that blend realist narratives with a pop sensibility. The works are reminiscent of classic, vintage postcard imagery with an undercurrent of poetic, and often surprising, juxtaposition. The stylistic effect is a blend between the old-school charm of Norman Rockwell, with the unexpected twist of surrealist René Magritte. JoAnne Artman Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by Danny Galieote with a focus on iconic American summertime scenes. Galieote belongs to a group of contemporary artists and writers that are part of a revitalized interest in American regionalist history and art. The American Regionalist art...

NORMAN ROCKWELL 'Star Struck' Signed & numbered, 1976 Original Color Lithograph
By Norman Rockwell
Located in Pembroke Pines, FL
"Starstruck" by Norman Rockwell Media: Lithograph on Paper Image Dimensions: 30" x 24" Year Produced: 1976 Edition Size: 200 Numbered (1-200), 60 Artist proof Edition Number: 140/200 Signed and Numbered in pencil by the artist Condition: In excellent Norman Rockwell was an American painter and illustrator known for his iconic depictions of American culture created for The Saturday Evening Post. With a range of favorite subjects that included nuclear families, mischievous children, and small-town life, his work has achieved an iconic status: the 1943 painting of a Thanksgiving dinner, Freedom from Want, has been reproduced and parodied countless times in contemporary culture. As an artist, Rockwell has had a lasting effect on US society beyond any singular work, with his paintings seen as indelible images that went on to inspire American directors such as George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and particularly Robert Zemeckis, whose 1994 film Forrest Gump recreates several of Rockwell’s paintings as scenes throughout the film. Though he enjoyed success throughout his career, Rockwell’s idyllic and sentimental outlook on American society was not necessarily embraced by art critics, though his later politically activist work garnered praise for its tackling of controversial subjects. Born on February 3, 1894 in New York, NY, he went on to study at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League. Rockwell notably had a longstanding relationship with the Boy Scouts of America...
