About the Item
Danza has a deep appreciation for the feelings of wonder and awe that come from being in nature. She tries to capture this experience with her immersive paintings, while also paying homage to the complex, overlapping ecological relationships of her subjects.
Found in extremely diverse habitats. The flat-tailed horned lizard occurs in areas of fine sand, while the short-horned lizard (P. douglasii) is found in shortgrass prairie all the way up into spruce-fir forest. The most common species frequents rocky or gravelly habitats of arid to semiarid plains, hills and lower mountain slopes. They have a preference for places that they can find shrub covering with an understory. They will often bury themselves in sand soil, if possible, or they will live in burrows that were constructed by other animals.
The complexity of these small interactions and the spaces they create provide the backdrop to our daily musings but also the existence we sometimes take for granted. Danza hopes that viewers take a bit of that ineffable feeling of well being that comes from awe and wonder with them and that it brings them a bit closer to each other and the natural world we are all a part of.
