About the Item
Born in 1982 in Manzanillo, Cuba, artist Darwin Estacio Martinez honed his artistic skills at the Professional Academy of Fine Arts "El Alba" in Holguin, and furthered his education at the prestigious Higher Institute of Arts in Havana. Martinez creates original oil paintings that captivate with their cropped portraiture, flattened forms, and seductive emotional detachment. His artistic style seamlessly blends elements of Pop Art with Minimalism, resulting in captivating compositions that focus on the essential details up close.

Currently, Martinez holds the esteemed positions of professor at the National Fine Arts Academy (San Alejandro) and the Higher Institute of Arts in Havana, where he imparts his knowledge and passion to aspiring artists. Martinez's artistic career has spanned across the globe, with his works exhibited in numerous shows and exhibitions in Cuba, as well as in the United States, Spain, Germany, South Korea, China, and Holland. His remarkable talent has garnered recognition in various publications, including ArtScene and Cutting Edge: 100 Cuban Artists. Notably, Martinez recently participated in the esteemed 2nd Dafen International Oil Painting Biennale in Shenzhen, China, and showcased his work with the esteemed Cica Museum in Gimpo-si, Korea.

Gerdine Duijsens was born in Utrecht, Netherlands, and studied at the Art Academy and the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium. The work of Gerdine Duijsens is a synthesis between figurative and abstract art. In their unguarded moments, Gerdine displays her characters with a slight derision as their vulnerable and insecure selves, when in their seemingly unobserved moments they briefly try to escape from a world in which status, knowledge, protocols and power keep them prisoner.
Her people are "bon-vivants," somewhat blasé, comical, cheerful, and bored. The partying, dining, happy single, and Botox paintings have become Gerdine's trademarks and have generated a steadily growing club of collectors internationally.
