Pilots - Double-sided Figurative Composition in Oil on Paper Expressive figurative compositions by Carmel, California artist David Amland (American, 1931-2010). On one side, a pilot stands by an American Army B75 Biplane. He is wearing blue coveralls and a tan shirt. On the other side, a pilot is sitting on top of a plane, wearing a tan flight suit, with a helmet and goggles on his head. Signed and dated in the lower right corner of each side. One piece was completed in 1986, the other in 1999 Presented in a wood frame painted blue on one side and brown on the other. Frame size: 23"H x 26"W Image size: 16.75"H x 19"W David Amland, artist, teacher, amateur historian and naturalist (American, 1931-2010) was born in Iowa City, Iowa in 1931. He grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955. He received his undergraduate degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in 1959. He taught for several years at Midland Lutheran College (now Midland University) in Fremont, Nebraska before relocating to Carmel, California. There he was active in the local art community until he moved to north Texas in 2003. The artist passed away in Dallas in 2010. Some of his work is held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Nebraska Art. Exh: 1971 - Midland College, Fremont, NE; 1970 - Elder Art Gallery, Lincoln, NE
