About the Item

This Flemish Baroque art by David Teniers the Younger’s is a captivating masterpiece, “Tavern Gathering,” painted in 1646. Renowned as the preeminent Flemish genre painter of his time, Teniers masterfully captures a lively scene within a tavern, where the vibrancy of peasant life unfolds amidst the melodies of music and the warmth of camaraderie. This exceptional piece showcases his innovative approach to genre painting and invites viewers to delve into the rich narratives and cultural context that define the era. The juxtaposition of the raucous peasants engaging in merriment and the refined family dining elegantly at a table draped in white cloth creates a striking commentary on social dynamics. It is finished in a gold and black ornate frame.

"Gamblers", Ming Wai, Original Oil on Canvas, 36x48, Color Figurative Abstract
By Ming Wai
Located in Dallas, TX
Wai Ming is a Chinese Asian Modern & Contemporary painter who was born in 1938. In this colorful abstract painting, women are huddled in a circle gambling and betting. Wai Ming's love for art flourished and he developed his drawing techniques without any art education, just painting what he saw. In the 1960s, Ming found representation in Hong Kong and also took the unusual step of opening his own gallery to display his work. His primary interest was to capture images of life in fishing villages, or 'fish-folk', who have retained traditional Chinese culture, his work was at home with the sensibilities of many art buyers in Hong Kong, and so was able to find some initial success. Crossing the ocean in his mid-30s, Wai Ming arrived in San Francisco from Hong Kong in 1974. There, he experienced initial resistance from galleries and the official art world for a variety of reasons but was ultimately embraced by dealer Jack Swanson...

"La Place au Bistro des Filles", Gerard Valtier, Acrylic on Board, French
By Gerard Valtier
Located in Dallas, TX
"La Place au Bistro des Filles" by Gerard Valtier is an original oil on canvas that measures 35x46 inches. The bright colors of this impressionistic painting create a lively evening scene of people walking and dancing outside of the shops along a canal. Empty gondola's float on the water, lit by the street lamps. Many appreciate the energetic work of the brush to describe the foliage or the luminous backgrounds irradiated with numerous vibrant colors. Seething with colors, sparkling, blazing, molten gold: the whole mystery of Gerard Valtier’s painting lies in the working of this colorful living chemistry, where the thickening cover of the glaze catches the reflections of the light, which progressively becomes incandescent. The contrasting blue and yellow, basically naturalistic colors - characteristic of the impressionist palette - create a feeling of bedazzlement which send out their own light, directly imitating the natural effects of light itself. Thus, the property of the color, the interaction of colors as well as their power to create some light, definitely are the basis of Valtier’s work. The artist can paint everything: barges along the quay, the busy crowds, Venice and its carnival, the bride and her procession - his whole painting is under the sign of the feast. Unlike Renoir or Cezanne, Valtier does not hesitate to use black as a true color, not one designed to soften or drain the pure color, as in the shadows. One will also appreciate the energetic work of the brush to describe the foliage or the luminous backgrounds irradiated with numerous vibrant colors. Valtier has had exhibitions throughout the world and has received many awards. He paints from his studio in Arles, France. He is listed in Mayers, Akoun, La Cote des Peinteres, Bordas International, and Financial Art.
