Deb Komitor
Deb Komitor, born in 1957, is a contemporary American painter whose evocative landscapes capture the spiritual essence of natural environments, with a particular devotion to depicting trees and forests. Working primarily in oil on various supports and colored pencil for smaller formats, she employs a distinctive technique starting with black gesso grounds and building layers through individual brushstrokes that optically blend in the viewer's eye. After receiving her BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design (1980) and MFA from Colorado State University (1983), Komitor committed to full-time artistic practice in 1993 and settled permanently in Colorado Springs in 1997. Her work explores the complementary tensions found in nature—darkness and light, chaos and serenity—while aiming to evoke emotional responses of wonder and hope. Represented by Abend Gallery in Denver, Komitor has exhibited extensively throughout Colorado and the American West, receiving recognition including Legacy Artist status at the Colorado Governor's Art Show.

Mountain landscape with a village. 1980. Cardboard, oil. 49,5x70cm
In this work artist paid attention to infinite landscape depiction of mountains in summertime. Mountains are thought to contain divine inspiration in many forms, and are the focus of pilgrimages of transcendence and spiritual elevation. Mountains surpass ordinary humanity and extend towards the heavens. They symbolize constancy and permanence and at their peak signify the state of absolute consciousness. The visual components of color, form, line, shape, space, texture, and value in this painting works together as one story of peaceful moment next to nature.
The village at the foot of the mountains is depicted in light brush strokes.
