Deb Komitor
Deb Komitor, born in 1957, is a contemporary American painter whose evocative landscapes capture the spiritual essence of natural environments, with a particular devotion to depicting trees and forests. Working primarily in oil on various supports and colored pencil for smaller formats, she employs a distinctive technique starting with black gesso grounds and building layers through individual brushstrokes that optically blend in the viewer's eye. After receiving her BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design (1980) and MFA from Colorado State University (1983), Komitor committed to full-time artistic practice in 1993 and settled permanently in Colorado Springs in 1997. Her work explores the complementary tensions found in nature—darkness and light, chaos and serenity—while aiming to evoke emotional responses of wonder and hope. Represented by Abend Gallery in Denver, Komitor has exhibited extensively throughout Colorado and the American West, receiving recognition including Legacy Artist status at the Colorado Governor's Art Show.

In this captivating landscape painting, "Touched by Light," Sophia Chalklen invites viewers into a serene natural oasis. The scene unfolds with a gentle stream meandering through lush, vibrant green trees that stand tall and proud, their leaves dancing in the sunlight. The artist's masterful use of impasto technique creates rich texture, bringing the foliage to life and allowing the colors to pop with an exuberance that is almost palpable.
The sun casts a warm glow across the canvas, its rays shimmering on the surface of the water, creating a play of reflections that dance like diamonds. The bright blues of the stream complement the vivid greens of the surrounding trees, evoking a sense of peace and tranquility. Each brushstroke tells a story, capturing the essence of a moment when nature feels alive and infused with light.

Photorealism is a genre of art that encompasses painting, drawing and other graphic media. An American art movement that began in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Photorealism evolved from Pop Art as a counter to Abstract Expressionism as well as Minimalist art movements. Though Photorealists share some aspects of American realists, such as Edward Hopper, they tried to set themselves as much apart from traditional realists as they did Abstract Expressionists. Photorealists were much more influenced by the work of Pop artists and were reacting against Abstract Expressionism. The word Photorealism was coined by Louis K. Meisel in 1969 and appeared in print for the first time in 1970 in a Whitney Museum catalogue for the show "Twenty-two Realists." It is also sometimes labeled as Super-Realism, New Realism, Sharp Focus Realism...
