About the Item

Dipak Banerjee - Ganesha - 10 x 8 inches (unframed size) Mixed Media on Canvas, 2005 (Framed and ready to hang door delivered) Dipak Banerjee is today the undisputed leader and ‘creator’ of what was earlier known as the ‘Neo-Tantric’ school of painting in India. The pigments and colors used in his works are organic and prepared by him. About the Artist and his work : Dipak Banerjee, born 1936, graduated from Government College of Arts & Crafts, Kolkata in 1957. He went to France on a French Government Scholarship. He is an important artist who came to lime light during 1960’s. He is a member of the Kolkata based artists group ‘Society of Contemporary Artists’. He has made important contribution in the field of graphic art and abstraction out of traditional tantric imageries. The present series of Dipak Banerjee deserves a much closer look due to his ability to draw the geometric accuracy of ‘tantric’ symbols with the unmistakable devotion of a Master in the tradition of Indian miniature painting and the one who knew the degree of exactitude needed to convey the thematic import adequately. He knows the degree of exactitude needed to convey the thematic import adequately. His variation from cold precision to the warmth of freer flow of line and color insome of paintings in this series, proves the strength of his remarkable control of hismedium that, technically speaking, is of his own making. Like the proverbial image Lord Vishnu as the Universal ‘creator’, that he has painted as a pair of footprints as ‘Vishnupada’’. Dipak Banerjee is today the undisputed leader and ‘creator’ of what was earlier known as the ‘Neo-Tantric’ school of painting in India.
