About the Item
Domenico Maria Canuti (Bologna 1626 - 1684)
Toilet of Venus with Cupids and Satyrs
Oil on canvas, cm. 79x98 - with frame cm. 102x121
Original gilded wooden frame, shaped, sculpted, carved and punched parts
Expertise: Massimo Pulini
Captured in her full nudity, Venus is intent on cleansing her body, as shown by the sponge she is dipping. A toilet in which a satyr gored with vine leaves and a pair of cupids intent on mirroring each other also take part. An articulate and sensual composition in which the style of Emilian painting can be fully appreciated. The author of the canvas has been identified by critics as Domenico Maria Canuti, a 17th-century Bolognese painter.
