About the Item
A contemporary minimalist composition depicting a painted yellow polo shirt with the black silhouette of a female dancer in a ball gown positioned on the left side of the chest, recalling the placement of emblematic brand logos. Presented as though it were a sewn garment label, the work includes the handwritten name “Zac,” applied with a fine brush. Executed on brown paper with direct, expressive strokes, the piece highlights texture and graphic clarity, combining playful simplicity with a pop-art sensibility.
The artwork is signed “Donald” in the lower left part.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Donald Robertson (born March 7, 1962) is a Canadian-born artist and longtime creative director for the Estée Lauder Companies. After attending the Ontario College of Art and Design, he was asked to leave due to his stylized, non-realistic figure drawing. This approach would later define his distinctive visual voice.
In the 1980s and early ’90s, Robertson played a pivotal role in the launch of MAC Cosmetics and contributed to the creative direction of major fashion magazines, including Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, and Glamour. In 2007, he became a creative director at Estée Lauder, and he has since collaborated with brands such as Smashbox, Bobbi Brown, Bloomingdale’s, J. Crew, and fashion designer Giles Deacon. Robertson first gained widespread recognition as “Drawbertson” on Instagram. His whimsical, cartoon-like depictions of fashion icons like Anna Wintour, Kanye West, and Karl Lagerfeld earned him both millions of followers and high-profile collaborations (including a line with Smashbox and a best-selling monograph published by Assouline).
He has been likened to a modern Warhol—though Robertson modestly aligns himself more with Pharrell Williams, preferring warmth and joy in his work. Robertson is celebrated for his playful, handmade aesthetic: bold, expressive, and unpretentious. His early life experiences—including failing life drawing for stylizing figures—are now “the secret to his success,” embodying his philosophy that creativity should be accessible, honest, and infused with a childlike spirit.

Vibrant Gouache by Rupert Picott
Located in Pasadena, CA
This gouache reveals a butterfly tree with wings covered in multiple eyes towards the observer. In this primitive kaleidoscope playing with perspectives, the artist Rupert Picott leads us into a dance of forms, half-animal, half-vegetal. Here, we can breathe a nature distanced from civilization, a shattered, psychedelic dimension that opens the doors of a hallucinated perception.
This gouache transcends its physical form. Like a dream woven into reality, it beckons viewers to question the boundaries of their consciousness. Each brushstroke becomes a portal to a realm where the mundane and the mystical intertwine, blurring the lines between what is seen and felt. In this dialogue between forms and colors, Rupert Picott offers us not just a painting but a glimpse into the infinite expanse of the human experience, echoing William Blake’s timeless wisdom: ‘If the doors of perception...

"Paddling Woman" Watercolor Minimalist Painting #1 by Christopher Paul Cobb
Located in Pasadena, CA
"Paddling Woman" is a minimalist watercolor that captures the essence of the human experience. Through the delicate strokes of a brush dipped in watercolor, the artist has conveyed the inner turmoil of the main subject, which may be remembering or dreaming of past or previous journeys. Her long, curly hair cascading down her shoulders symbolizes the wildness within us all. The simple black ink lines that create the birds and ships in the background add a touch of innocence and childlike wonder, evoking a sense of nostalgia for a simpler time.
The signature is in the right corner, and it is dated (September 1995). It sits in a simple black wood frame. Christopher Paul Cobb is an American artist born in the 20th Century. He is the grandson of baseball great player Ty Cobb.

" I am a Mexican" Pop Art Portrait of a Man in Amsterdam by Shao Qi
Located in Pasadena, CA
In contemporary art's diverse and infinitely complex world, many works serve as vehicles for thoughts, statements, and emotions. SHAO QI, a Chinese artist born in 1987 in Shanghai, blends political, cultural, and aesthetic elements in her lithographic work titled "I am Mexican." This piece, limited to fifty copies and numbered 21/50 in pencil, dated 2011, transcends the materiality of art to explore societal palimpsests and interrogate notions of identity and globalization.
The dynamic confrontation of colors, particularly the dichotomy of red and black, is essential. The radiant luminescence of red contrasts sharply with the ultimate absorption of black, framing the piece in a colorimetric standoff reminiscent of vintage propaganda posters. Red, the color of revolution and power, passion and vitality, mingles with black, the shade of shadow and void, embodying the potential for new beginnings, as French artist William Klein once proclaimed.
SHAO QI employs a stylistic language that is instilled with almost raw expressiveness. The bold black strokes outlining the figure are reminiscent of Shepard Fairey's work under the OBEY signature. These black lines convey a vibrancy and primal force akin to Russian constructivist posters...
