Ed Burkes
CONTEMPORARY British Figurative Artist Pastel Color Ed Burkes 2024

2024

About the Item

Inspired by the belief that music, language, and art deeply influence one another, Ed Burkes, a highly acclaimed painter, dedicates himself to exploring the extraordinary facets of everyday life. His artwork is brimming with relatable nuances that draw inspiration from his present and historical surroundings. Ed draws on cues from the natural world, as well as lyrics and hooks from popular music and historical culture. One of Ed's captivating fascinations lies in language, and this is vividly expressed through his incorporation of chopped and sampled phrases or statements in his work. These linguistic elements not only question various contexts but also offer glimpses into narratives and ignite speculation. In Ed's artistic practice, the text holds as much significance as the visual imagery itself, playing a crucial role in conveying meaning and evoking emotions. His intuitive style of painting has seen him exhibited at Beers London and Arusha Gallery. Ed's first solo show, Dandelion, was the result of a nine month studio residency in Derby with a prolific body of works exhibited at Derby Museum and Art Gallery before moving to Mall Galleries in London in 2021.
