David van der Linden is a Dutch artist who studied at the ' Classical Academy of Arts' in Groningen. He also went to St Petersburg in Russia to study at the "Imperial Academy of Arts'. There he got overwhelmed by the possibilities to work with color in skin tones. He likes to paint in bright and warm colors to show the heat off skin tones in summer light or the cold tones of skin in winter light. He mostly paints young boys during their period of 'becoming a man'. The wondering about their bodies and the bodies of others. Boys can be beautiful and proud, they also can be beautiful and unsure about who they are and what they want to show off themselves.
The title is from the Bowie song 'Rock 'n Roll Suicide'.
When the sun is on its brightest the shadow is on its darkest. That's what the artist likes to show in this painting. Maybe in real life it is exactly the same.
In his paintings David tells a story, his own story portrayed by boys who are on the turning point from childhood to adolescence. The titles of the paintings are titles of David Bowie's songs. For David, Bowie's songs during the period when he himself was the age of the models he now paints were 'daily fare'. The music and lyrics are often about making your own choices, being yourself, being 'different' or shaping yourself the way you want and not the way others would like you.
'Nude' in David's paintings is not only 'a hymn to youth' but also the equivalent of 'being yourself and showing who you are too'. The attitude, gaze and composition in the work together tell the story that the viewer can fill in himself.
In addition to the paintings in which the youth plays a role, David paints 'movement'. The racing bike is central to this. It is no coincidence that this is what David prefers to do for some time every day in addition to his work in the gallery and painting.
14 Paintings by David were published in 'Your Daily Male' in 2019 and 2020. An International calendar in which art with men in the leading role is central. Paintings by David are now in collections all over the world.

Figures on the Beach with Sculpture, Contemporary Surreal Figural Landscape
By Michael Pauker
Located in Soquel, CA
Dark storm clouds loom over a surreal, desolate beach landscape, which is populated by several male figures in different states of being, in this contemplative symbolic contemporary painting by Bay Area artist Michael Pauker (American, b.1957), circa 2013-2014. In the left foreground we see part of a bearded man's face, as if witnessing this scene with the viewer. Next a male figure in bright red bathing suit faces the ocean, his back to the viewer, while a more distant nude male at three quarter view points down at something in the sand. Finally, on the right appears the bearded man as a classical sculpture bust on a pedestal...

Paradox of St. Sebastian - Contemporary Oil Painting with Graffiti and Shackles
By Bruno Surdo
Located in Chicago, IL
This figure of St. Sebastian has long been a favorite subjects for artists. In this modern interpretation we see St. Sebastian shackled in chains and leather restraints against an industrial graffiti covered wall. He gazes upwards while his body is pummeled with rubber suction cup darts. Historical references are ripe for interpretation in this painting. St. Sebastian is known as the patron saint for athletes, soldiers and warriors. He is said to have survived his initial wounds from arrows by way of divine intervention only to be beaten to death later after warning the emperor of his sins. St. Sebastian is known to be a protector from plague.

Jason and Medea - Greek Mythological Couple Inspired Diptych of Love and Tragedy
By Richard Gibbons
Located in Chicago, IL
The Greek myth of Medea, the enchantress who helped Jason, leader of the Argonauts, obtain the magical Golden Fleece, is a classic story of betrayal and vengeance. Like many Greek myths, this one too has a tragic ending. She was of divine descent and had the gift of prophecy and married Jason. Theirs's was a passionate beginning but when Jason found another, Medea made the ultimate sacrifice by killing the children the two shared. Jason, Medea and the Golden Fleece is one of the oldest myths of a hero's quest. Gibbons portrays the hero as a bare-chested god with a halo of roses and gold. The Heroine is portrayed with a golden crown and an aura of golden rays surrounding her. His soft features and partially opened lips and her sultry gaze add to the sensuousness of their passionate love affair. The paintings are framed in a simple walnut wooden frames measuring 21.5 x 17.5 inches each.
