Emmanuel Cocard
Emmanuel Cocard. Fairy Tale Scene Of A Knight With A Young Woman On Horseback.

About the Item

Emmanuel Cocard. Fairy Tale Scene Of A Knight With A Young Woman On Horseback. Fairy tale scene of a knight abducting a young woman on horseback. Behind them, we see dark silhouettes, dwarves on crutches chasing the couple fleeing a city. The author of the painting creates a fairy-tale atmosphere, using splendid electric blues with a flavor that perhaps draws inspiration from futurist painting or the Russian theatrical experiments that took place at the beginning of the century in Paris. (Ballets russes by Djaghilev). The fairly large painting, on thick gouache cardboard, is in good condition, with a few stains on the lower part. it was recently acquired by our gallery with another painting of the same format. One of the paintings is signed and dated in the upper right corner. And Cocard 1929. To protect the paint on the back and protected by a wooden panel. Emmanuel Cocard was a humorist and painter in Lyon between 1921 and 1941. He began his collaboration with Éditions S.E.F.I. in 1942, when he produced the illustrations for a series of coloring books. In the following years, he illustrated several books for this Villeurbanne publisher, such as 'Gulliver in the land of the Giants', 'La Légende de Guignol', 'La Scarabée d'or', 'Les Bonbonsmagiques' and several other books for children. He also illustrated La Fontaine's Fables for Éditions Giraud Ivoire in 1943.

Jack Hooper "Women with Colored Blanket" January 1, 1970 Gouache and marker on paper 12"x14" unframed Signed and dated in pencil lower left In this 1970 artwork by Jack Hooper, an enigmatic figure takes center stage. Rendered in gouache and marker, the woman, devoid of facial features, stands draped in a vivid, oversized blue coat that highlights her distorted form. Her long black hair adds a sense of mystery to the composition. In the foreground, a multi-colored blanket with a striking bright pink edge provides a captivating contrast. Hooper's minimalist approach invites viewers to ponder questions of identity and perception through this subtly compelling piece. Jack Meredith Hooper (August 26, 1928 - January 24, 2014) was an American painter, muralist, sculptor, printmaker and art educator. Hooper was a major figure on the Southern California art scene, belonging to that generation of Los Angeles painters...
