About the Item
“Dinner on the Terrace in Provence” – Vibrant coastal painting by French artist Natalya Mougenot. The expressive scene captures a lively terrace overlooking the sea. Natalya shares: “Through my paintings, I aim to celebrate the beauty of everyday life and the emotions it inspires.” Ideal for collectors of contemporary and impressionist-inspired coastal art.
Natalya reflects, “Provence is a constant source of inspiration for me. The endless sunshine, the songs of cicadas, and the intoxicating scents of lavender, thyme, and rosemary awaken my senses and fuel my creativity.” Her deep connection to the region’s natural heritage—the olive groves, cypress, pines, fig, and almond trees—imbues this work with authentic vitality.
Drawing on the legacy of legendary artists who lived and loved this land, such as Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, and Vincent Van Gogh, Natalya channels their fearless use of color and emotional intensity. “Like Cézanne and Matisse, I am fascinated by how color and light can express the spirit of a place. Van Gogh’s passion for the South of France taught me to paint not just what I see, but what I feel.”
Executed in oil paint on professional stretched cotton canvas, the painting is finished with a protective varnish to guard against fading and dust, preserving its radiant hues for years to come.
This piece embodies a bold, eclectic energy—a spontaneous, intuitive exploration of color and movement. Natalya shares, “I work rapidly and freely, trusting my instincts. The process is a dance between my hands and the canvas, where mood and motion guide each brushstroke.”

About the Artist:
Originally from Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, and now based in Lyon, France, Natalya Mougenot has spent over two decades refining her artistic voice. Her multicultural background and personal experience inform her bold, expressive works, which have found homes in private collections around the world.
Natalya’s distinctive visual language blends Abstract Expressionism, Impressionism, Art Naïf, and Art Brut—resulting in paintings that are raw, instinctive, and emotionally resonant. Across her work, three values guide her: authenticity, sincerity, and honesty.
“Authenticity is everything,” she says. “People can always feel when something is real—or when it’s not. I want my work to be honest, to come from a place that’s true.”
In addition to painting, Natalya is also a passionate photographer. Her photographic work—also featured on this platform—mirrors her painterly sensibility: a poetic, observational approach that captures the quiet power of everyday life. For her, photography is both inspiration and a form of presence, often serving as visual sketches for future paintings or existing as standalone works.

Natalya is a contemporary artist from Lyon, France. She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes and low mountains. She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country. She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis when she was struggling with radical life changes. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now. Several years ago painting became more than a hobby. It became a way of expressing her emotions and visions, a successive reaction to events of either personal or general concern. Her artist statement: “ I paint as it’s a necessity for my soul to express itself. Being creative for me is overcoming the restrictions. My art is a piece of my soul. I hope my art inspires reflection, provides a release and forms connection at other people’s souls”. She has developed her own vision of art through practicing a lot. She makes use of varying degrees of figuration, abstraction and impressionism by adding a contemporary twist. Abstract art for her is an interesting challenge for understanding inner feelings, a self-expression based on an intuitive approach. In figurative art her main subject remains women. Her artworks representing women contain the raw emotions of women. She also communicates the importance and the power of strong female relationships: “Women are enriched when they bond with each other”. She works in series: among them are "Heart-mind connection" of abstract artworks, "Women", "Bond", "Florals", "Springtime"... She uses various mediums ( acrylic, oil, watercolor, oil pastels) to create her unique artworks either on canvas or on paper. But she mainly uses acrylic as she works very quickly and expressively by finishing her artwork in one sitting. If Natalya had to pick one quote about her art, she would say : " Art is the reflection of the soul". Natalya goes with her gut and intuition to choose the colors, the lines, the shapes and the texture. She hopes her artworks will give a home a unique personality by filling it with life and color. Her sources of inspirations are Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse, George-Daniel de Monfreid, Paul Gauguin. She also admires the artworks of Joan Mitchell and Banksy.
