About the Item
This artwork "Wild Flowers" 1977, is an oil painting on canvas board by noted Canadian artist Ernest Eidersdorf, 1901-1998. It is signed at the lower right corner by the artist. The canvas board size is 18 x 14 inches, framed size is 23.90 x 19.75 inches. Custom framed in a gold frame, with fabric liner and gold bevel. It is in excellent condition.
About the artist:
Ernest Heidersdorf was born in Germany. He opened a commercial studio in Berlin where he established an international reputation for his wallpaper and textile designs. In 1953, he and his family settled permanently in Canada.
He became a full-time artist specializing in such difficult media as tempera casein and watercolors. His remarkable technique combined with the life and movement in his paintings drew the attention of many serious art collectors in Canada and abroad.
In 1966, he was commissioned to paint the "Centennial Rose" for presentation to the Queen at Buckingham Palace. In 1969, he painted the "Royal Canadian Rose" presented to Madame Vanier, wife of the former governor-general of Canada.
This painting is estimated to be one of his earlier works due to the age of the paper backing & article.
Connoisseurs agree that he was one of Canada's greatest painters of nature. His natural style is unique and particularly in the Canadian floral painting. He painted the aesthetics of plants, their feel, their appearance to the eye, how they grew and how they interacted with other species.
Among his accomplishments, he painted the flowers emblems of the provinces and territories of Canada. More importantly, he has elevated to an art of painting flowers, creating works prompting us to the contemplation of nature. His work is found in the homes of art lovers as well as in many private and corporate collections around the World.
