About the Item
Part of the Raw Renaissance series, these works explore the intersection of painting and sculpture through a richly textural language. Floral patterns—both painted and collaged—evoke a sense of vintage beauty, domesticity, and nostalgia. In contrast, sculptural fabric elements made from recycled materials emerge from the canvas like organic growths or ruptures, creating a visceral tension between harmony and disruption.
Kopacsi’s use of found textiles introduces a sense of history and tactility, while the deliberate stitching, folds, and raw edges lend the works a bodily, almost fragile presence. The juxtaposition of soft florals and rough textile interventions transforms the canvas into a layered site of memory, transformation, and quiet resistance.
These pieces challenge the traditional boundaries of the canvas, blurring the line between surface and structure, image and object.
Fanni Kopacsi is a contemporary visual artist born in Hungary in 1991, currently based in Barcelona, Spain. She studied fine arts at the Secondary School of Visual Arts in Budapest, Hungary. Her works
are both an introspection and a reflection on human behaviour, sociocultural issues and the ecological
crisis, raising questions from a critical position. Fanni's practice, although based on painting, has
expanded beyond the limits of the medium and includes a wide range of materials, such as textile,
plastic and electronic waste. Her works have been exhibited in Hungary, the United Kingdom and
Spain.
